    Lots of history
    This is the original horsehair it has not been replaced
    Size 6 1/2 on the inside
    Tudor rose embellishments
    Horsehair spike will unscrew
    Leather strap for chain chinstrap comes with the helmet but is dry.
    Soda can is in the photo to show scale
    Previous owner obviously tried to polish the brass. I took a soft toothbrush to get some of the polish out of the cracks to show the details but some dried polish still remains.
    The fragile leather under the visor has a little piece missing
    Leather inner cap intact but the string that holds the pieces is missing
    No dents, only scuffs and small dings from use and age.
    British 3rd Dragoon Guards Troopers Helmet Other ranks Albert Pattern helmet with starburst helmet plate to the centre of the 3rd Dragoon Guards. Brass helmet shell remains in good overall condition with just some very minor contact marks. Red and black horse hair plume. Leather backed linked chin scales supported by side bosses. Helmet is complete with its leather liner.

    A fine, original 1871 Pattern Helmet from Queen Victoria’s elite heavy cavalry.
    All brass wreathed skull with black and red horsehair plume and regimental badge of the 3rd Dragoon Guards. With original liner and chin scales.
    Used in the Boer War in South Africa and in WW1.
    A regiment with an impressively long record of loyalty, bravery and tenacity that one expects to see, from one of the regiments of one of the finest cavalry divisions, in one of the finest armys in the world.
    Regimental Honours.
    1701 – 1705, Blenheim, Ramillies, Oudenarde and Malplaquet during the war of Spanish Succession.
    1756 – 1763, Warburg during the Seven years’ war.
    1793 – 1802, Beaumont and Willems during the French revolutionary wars.
    1808 – 1802, Talavera, Albuhera, Vittoria, peninsula during the Peninsula war.
    1867 – 1868, Yhe Abyssinian war.
    1899 – 1902, The South African war.
    1914 – 1914, Ypres 1914 and 1915 Loos, Arrass 1917, Scarpe 1917, St Quentin, Avre, Amiens, Hindenburg Line, Mons, in France and Flanders.
    This British 3rd Dragoon Guards Other Ranks Helmet is
    Made of brass, at the top there is a crosspiece base and a plume socket four-inches tall. This style of helmet was introduced in 1871 and used through the First World War.
    This example is of the 3rd (Prince of Wales's) Regiment of Dragoon Guards. This regiment was first raised in 1685. It saw service for three centuries, before being amalgamated into the 3rd/6th Dragoon Guards in 1922.
