Asmat Male Ancestor Figure Standing on A Pointed Canoe with Hands on His Phallus Artifact from Papua New Guinea -LP1
Up for sale is this Asmat Male Figure with a prominent nose and decorated with scarification throughout is standing on a pointed model of a canoe with both hands on his phallus. This artifact is hand carved from a single piece of wood that has been treated with natural black pigment.
Provenance:
Private collection. Collected during the early 1970s during an expedition through the rivers of the West Papua New Guinea Region and selected prior to New Guinean regulations limiting the export of art.
Condition:
This piece is one-of-a-kind, hand carved by Asmat Tribesmen from a single piece of wood that has been treated with natural black pigment. This artifact is in very good condition it might exhibit signs of environmental exposure, utilitarian use, chips, natural wood splits, patina, polish from handling and repairs that are consistent with its age. Sold as is. Please view detailed photos as part of the description for overall quality, scratches, splits and imperfections. It would make a wonderful addition for the avid collector.

With respect to autograph material, or any print, drawing, painting, watercolor, sculpture, other work of art or artifact: in the event that a buyer claims that an item is not authentic, Seller shall have no obligation to rescind the sale unless the buyer has obtained, at the buyer’s expense, the opinion of two recognized experts in the field, who are mutually agreeable to Seller and the buyer, that a lot or portion thereof is not authentic.
Acceptance of a claim under this provision shall be limited to rescission of the sale and refund of purchase price; in no case shall Seller’s maximum liability exceed the amount paid on that lot, which sale shall be deemed for all purposes the value of the lot.
While every effort is made to determine provenance and authenticity, it is the responsibility of the Buyer to arrive at their own conclusion prior to purchasing.
