    Description

    A rare find of an early 20th century Lombok or Balinese beaded temple "Offering Basket". This hand made basket was elaborately sewn using white seed beads in lacy geometric patterns around the outside and embellished with gold mica. This culturally important old offering basket was an utilitarian piece made long before similar baskets were made for the tourist trade. Baskets, including this, were made from local accessible materials such as rattan, mica, leather and fabric scraps. The thread is made of old linen and is intricately stitched which I try to show in photos. Approx. 15"D x 5"H. Age and use has resulted in some light damage, including broken strands of threaded beads and some mica has fallen off. The rattan however is in excellent condition with no breakage. Multiple photos form the basis of the description as best as possible.
