I take the utmost pride in offering only the highest quality items for sale on the eBay venue, check my feedback.
A very early 1880's Navajo man's bandolier bag in all original condition. This museum specimen shows all the characteristics of the earliest Navajo silver work. The lack of stamp work on the buttons, which are simple hammered silver coins with the most basic chisel and file designs, along with the wear to the tips of the flap buttons, mark this as a rare and intact example. The use of native tanned leathers and early cotton twine are also key characteristics. The two pump drilled turquoise tabs are of a deep aged green color as are the pump drilled heishi beads suspended from the leather top flap. Also present is a pump drilled blue-green "sing" stone attached to the shoulder strap denoting attendance at some sacred event, dance or ceremony. Of particular note is the large chiseled and filed central 2" domed concho formed from a single silver dollar. Several Native repairs to bag and strap over the years of use. The piece, though missing one high domed button on the strap (where the turquoise stone is attached) is in decent original condition with a lustrous softness and patina that comes only from years of use.
Keep in mind, this artifact is an antique Navajo ex-museum piece from the 1800-1885 period, in original condition, and the original cotton twine securing the silver buttons is 137 to 142 years old as well, and the strap buttons are a little loose. For display purposes only, due to age and original native materials used, but absolutely intact as indicated in the description and /or shown in the listing photos.
Has the original museum tag from the 1940's. A 50" strap. Bag is 5 1/2" x 7" with 3/4" high domed coin silver flap beads. 85 1/2" simple domed coin silver strap buttons with soldered copper loops.
One of the best of its kind.
