32 Providence & WorcesterDavid R. Sweetland
One of the pioneering regional carriers, P&W began operations in 1973 with six leased Alco RS-3s. Today it operates a fleet of 36 units, including GE Dash 8-40Bs, B39-8Es and B30-7As, as well as EMD GP38s, GP38-2s, and GP40s.

N&W's entire fleet of GP4Os was transferred to Norfolk Southern ownership in 1982, and today, some 23 years later, 24 of the units continue to work for the carrier. Among the 36 units divested by NS, nearly all have found homes on regional railroads across North America.
