43 Chesapeake & Ohio EMD GP3Os
For C&O, the acquisition of GP3Os in 1962 represented its first investment in second-generation diesels. Using obsolete BL-2s and E7s, as well as wrecked F7s and GP9s as trade-ins, the carrier acquired a fleet of 48 units that spent a majority of its time on the northern end of the system.
Former Cotton Belt 822, now 3812 after rebuilding in 1976, is shown at Olivette, Mo., on March 21, 1982.
