Description

This is an early WW1 brimless British/UK Brodie helmet.  It is maker marked  B over S  and 4 -- the maker is probably W. Beardmore and Co. of Glasgow, early 1916.   This was the style of helmet used by British and Commonwealth forces at the opening of the Battle of the Somme.  Helmet has original paint (over 95% left), early narrow chinstrap bales, early chinstrap with early style buckle, and the chinstrap is strong with no tears or breaks. The liner appears to be a private purchase with American cloth (oil cloth) band, and wool crown.   Many officers replaced the original liners with a higher quality replacement.
The helmet is in its original, as-found condition, we have not cleaned it at all except to determine that the white dots shown in the pictures are not paint and could be cleaned up with a gentle scrubbing.
Please see the pictures for condition details and ask if you have any questions.
