SPECIAL APPRECIATION is expressed to the many persons who worked with the staff in making this issue such a faithful record of the railroad that has for so long been a part of the Massachusetts and eastern New York scene.
Herbert H. Harwood, Sr.--not to be confused with his railroad-book author son!--was the Executive Representative of the president of the New York Central Railroad in Boston from May 1956 through December 1965. During--and before--this period, he oversaw and had intimate contact with the B. & A. from the ballast up. His long lead article on the B. & A. is written from his first-hand knowledge of the railroad and his collection of B. & A. memorabilia. Included among the latter are the photographs used with his article printed from the glass plate negatives "discovered in a neglected corner of South Station in 1960, which are now the property of the Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities.
Howard F. Greene, past National President of the Railroad Enthusiasts, Inc., has provided the old tickets and some of the photos accompanying the article. "The Last Run of the Rabbit Train" was made available by Robb Sagendorph, editor of Yankee magazine, and George William Rae, the author.
