Kanakajon's Mission: "Spread the Aloha"This beautiful authentic
Vintage South Pacific Islands Polynesian Ceremonial Kava Bowl
is a fine example of Oceanic arts of the late 19th century and early 20th century. Carved from Kou wood, a soft but durable wood chosen for its physical properties and its aesthetic qualities. This work of art would have been carved, then soaked in water and nut oil, and then polished to a high gloss. The higher status members, or royalty, of tribal societies (
Samoa
,
Fiji
,
Tahiti
, etc.) usually kept a ceremonial kava bowl of this size for special occasions. This bowl was hand-carved with deep broad strokes and has a lovely patina. One might find a bowl of this excellence in Oceanic art circles and museum holdings. The bowl has a total of
18 legs
making it more desirable and valuable than others. Hand-crafted and in very good condition for its age (see photos), this bowl has a 10 inch diameter and measures 4 inches tall.
Make me a crazy offer. I just might accept it. I like to spread the Aloha as often as I can. If you make me laugh, you will increase your luck! Mahalo and Aloha! Kanakajon
