    Unusual Hand Crafted Polychrome Asmat New Guinea Carved Romantic Figural Sago Platter
    28 1/2 inches (72.4 cm) long x 6 inches (15.3 cm) wide x 6 inches (15.3 cm) deep
    Circa: 1970
    Condition: Very Good: Mild Wear typical of an ethnically used object.
    Description: Sago platters were used by the Asmat for serving the starchy food prepared from the pith of the Sago palm. This one with a carving showing a tenderly touching couple is uncommon.
    This item was from San Francisco Bay area estate.
