Description
This is the smallest in my toroidal core line. It features an FT114-43 core wound with a 2:11 turns ratio which is close to 1:30 impedance wise. I found this ratio and core size, when feeding a 68 ft EFLW, to tune 40/20 meters, 1.2-1 and 1.1-1 respectively, (middle of the band, broad tune ability). Also 15 and 10 meters but with sharp tuning. Originally envisioned for QRP, I thought I'd see how much power it could handle. I was surprised that it was over a hundred watts, (SSB) that made it start getting warm, (with no enclosure). This was on 20 with a close to perfect match. Adding the 100pf cap did not improve high band performance. I did find that subtracting a turn, (2:10 ratio) will improve high band performance without affecting 20/40 matching much. Like my dual cores, there's a lot of room for fiddling! Note: I have come up with a balun configuration that allows use with a tuned skywire loop. Add a note with your purchase if you prefer the balun winding.BNC connector available on request.
