    Description

    Vintage Indonesian Timor bamboo container which the natives use for storing lime powder. The lime is mixed with leaves and betal nuts to produce a mild simulant, and bamboo containers are an essential part of the betal-chewing kit.
    I bought a few of these in the past, but this one is especially beautiful: The carved wood top is
    unusually detailed, with the upper half of a figure, arms folded, person wearing a hat, and face simple but a strong design; the bottom has a wonderful incised decorative lizard design on the front and back.
    7” x 1 1/2”; excellent condition; smooth feel and nice patina to the bamboo.
