    Description

Collectible Up for Sale. This is a 1970’s Vintage 17” tall Hand Carved Igorot Hunter Statue.
In the Philippines the term Igorot is an old Tagalog word meaning “people from the mountains or mountaineers”. They were also known as head hunters. Known for their savagery for cutting off heads of their rivalry. Since Catholicism was introduced, their traditional customs of beheading have been forgotten and outlawed.
The Igorots are an ethnic band of people of the Philippines, they are geographically located in the Cordillera region of Luzon. Other Filipinos would say that Igorots are a highland race, and are well-adapted to life in raised altitudes.
They are known for Farming in Terrace like Cultivation. The Terraces from outsiders look like Stairways to heaven. At one point the Rice Terraces were considered as 8th wonder of the world.
This is Hand Carved in Philippines by master Artisan in the local provinces or smaller villages called Barrio.
This attractive male statue has all the traditional Igorot Hunter attire. They are true minimalist. Only carrying small items for long travel to hunt for Boars & small mammals such as red/brown deer, that they can carry on long journey back home.
Look at the details this work of art has. You can see what it was like back centuries ago. Only wearing loin cloth, with small pouch on its right waist, a knife on another & a long spear. With a backpack made of local coconut leaves and wearing a necklace to remind him of home. Also, notice where the boar was speared.
This is in Great Condition. As with any old vintage statues. There will be some scuff, chips, scratches, no missing or broken off parts. This art was kept safe and well taken care off.
It’s a great gift for someone who likes relic of long time pass, uncivilized history, where natural way of life was customary. Or this can be added to your collection, put it out in your man-cave, office, home or boat.
